| Development in sport For the past three years, NCT has sponsored a development team from the Zakhe Agricultural College based at Baynesfield to participate in the annual NCT Boys' Inter-school Adventure Race. The team of three is selected according to the boys' physical fitness and their ability to work as a team. Physical disciplines involve running, cycling, swimming, paddling and a series of compulsory tasks and challenges but also focus on life skills, team work and camaraderie. To enhance the race and create awareness of those in need, each year funds are raised for a worthy community-based project. Projects that have benefited from the race are: 1. The Harding Special School for the physically-challenged based in Harding. The school formed in 1990, is a boarding establishment for 155 physically-disabled children aged 6-18 (Grade 1-7). The children come from impoverished, rural homes and rely on the school for basic and practical skills to prepare them for high school and the outside world. 2. The Indaleni School for the Deaf in Richmond. The school, formed in 1985, is a boarding establishment for 100 deaf children between the ages of 3-15 years (up to Grade 9). 3. The Bongekile creche in the Indaleni township of Richmond. It cares for 80 children (aged 2-5 years), 15 of which are orphans.
