Markets » Non-pulpwood

NCT offers its Members the opportunity to trade their non-pulp round log timber into a host of financially secure non-pulp market options (ie into saw timber, treated poles, mining timber, charcoal markets). Its network of registered non-pulp round log buyers/markets cover the three main timber growing areas in South Africa - Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern & Western Cape. This market constitutes 18% of NCT's total sales volumes (in excess of 400 000 tonnes) into approximately 120 different national markets.

The common commodities NCT trades (brokers) for its Members are:

  • Transmission poles
  • E. grandis, E. saligna
  • Telephone poles
  • E. grandis, E. saligna
  • Pine saw timber
  • P. patula, P. elliottii, P. taeda, P. radiata

  • Firewood
  • A. mearnsii (Wattle), any hard Eucalyptus specie

NCT Members are required to organise their own harvesting contractors and transport contractors for special market supply opportunities, though NCT can assist where possible.

NCT's service to its registered markets/buyers is paramount. The Co-operative understands the difficulties of spot market round log procurement and continuously strives to fulfil market needs in a professional, efficient and effective manner.

The benefits of being an NCT registered market/buyer are:

    • Timeous procurement of timber
    • Competitive market-related prices
    • Focussed service to your needs
    • Awareness of your demand commodities within the NCT grower/member supply base
    • Secure long-term supplies
