28 INTEGRATED ANNUAL REPORT 2022 LOGISTICS Depots have proven to be valuable strategic stock holding facilities along the supply chain. The two depots in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands continue to link small growers in rural areas to local markets. These depots facilitated more than 8 700 tonnes of members’ timber into mills. In addition, the Vryheid East depot supplied 116 000 tonnes into markets albeit that operations and intake volumes were detrimentally affected by poor rail service levels. NCT continues to broker road and rail transport business along with benchmarking supply-chain costs for members. NCT’s scheduling system remains an integral part of logistics activities providing a web-based, real-time virtual daily delivery planning system through which up to 8 000 tonnes per day are scheduled and delivered to various NCT markets. In its commitment to improve efficiencies, NCT is in the process of developing a mobile phone application aimed amongst others at providing tracking of a load and a paperless documentation process.
