26 INTEGRATED ANNUAL REPORT 2025 • Suppliers of Acacia into all NCT and other Acacia GST approved pulpwood markets received R40/tonne on all Acacia tonnes supplied between 1% and 110% of GST. • Suppliers of Eucalyptus into Northern NCT and other Northern Eucalyptus GST approved pulpwood markets received R40/tonne on all Eucalyptus tonnes supplied between 1% and 110% of GST. • Suppliers of Eucalyptus into Southern NCT and other Southern Eucalyptus GST approved pulpwood markets (Sappi) received R30/tonne for every Eucalyptus tonne supplied between 50% and 80% of GST and R40/tonne for every Eucalyptus tonne supplied between 81% and 110% of GST. • Tonnes supplied below 49% of Southern Eucalyptus GST did not accrue a premium. It was deemed that the Southern Eucalyptus market was not as stressed as the other market sectors given that access to a domestic market did prevail through the supply year (albeit sometimes erratic) hence the “stepped” GSP. The above GSP concession provided fair and welcome financial relief to members. It should be seen as an NCT “membercentric” contribution to co-operative members that are held in high esteem. By February 2025, the NCT mills were back at a collective 90% operational level (post-fire) – a huge achievement, all things considered. Unfortunately, the reality of a depressed Eucalyptus market and increasing prevalence of oldage Eucalyptus on member and NCT farms started to become increasingly apparent. NCT continues to investigate all manner of Eucalyptus alternative markets, ranging from biomass through to energy generation, peeler markets and other end uses such as board. This impetus continues and will continue until a resolution to the Eucalyptus crisis is found. NCT remains committed to finding a solution.
