News & Views September 2023

34 August is Women’s Month in South Africa and in keeping with the recognition of the important role of women in forestry, NCT has, for years, subscribed to the She is Forestry initiative administered by Forestry South Africa (FSA). This platform allows peer-nominated women, who have made exceptional contributions to the industry, to be well and truly celebrated. This year, NCT was pleased to hear that that our very own Noxolo Ndlovu had been nominated by Nelson Mandela University (NMU) for the Post Graduate Excellence Award. Noxolo as you may be aware is currently concluding her Ph.D. all whilst attending to the tasks of NCT Research Scientist. Even better was the news that Noxolo won the award! Well done Noxolo and may your career path within the industry continue to flourish just like the plant material that you are nurturing and developing. Yvette Grobbelaar, NCT Administrator on Melmoth Estate, was celebrated with a formal nomination by NCT into the Outstanding Contribution to the Forest Industry and Forest Product Value Chain category. You have made us proud, Yvette, and you have proved that no matter what position one holds, one can make a critical and totally positive contribution. Furthermore, NCT nominated a member, Throla Rosiemary Mbuyazi, for the Small-scale-Grower Recognition award. Throla, you too deserve every accolade that comes your way. Now, NCT would of course like to nominate many more of our women into the various “She is Forestry” categories but, for practical reasons, this is simply not possible. NCT does however take this opportunity to share with you our own list of 2023 Outstanding Contribution nominations shown in the lower row below. You know them all and you know the effort, energy, and expertise that they put into their daily tasks, both NCT and personal. Women of NCT – we salute you. There are no words that can adequately describe the high level of contribution that you make on a daily basis. But – know this – you are really appreciated. – Rob Thompson – Member Services Department Manager – Post-graduate award winner – Noxolo Ndlovu – Research Scientist Yvette Grobbelaar - Administrator on Melmoth Estate Throla Mbuyazi – Small-Grower recognition award Merisha Bepat – Business and Logistics Analyst. Faith David – Member Services Administrator (SKZN) Sindi Mashaba – Member Services Administrator (Richards Bay)
