36 An impromptu emergency evacuation was conducted by the Health and Safety committee at the NCT Head Office. This impromptu evacuation was to measure the level of employee awareness regarding emergency evacuation and also measure if the guidelines set for evacuation are effective. The fire department was present to assess the fire drill and gave constructive feedback to the emergency evacuation team. The emergency evacuation team consists of trained first aiders, a fire team and emergency controllers. The core function of the team is to; • Ensure that staff members have safely evacuated the building. • Conduct a roll call to ensure all staff are present at the assembly point. • To treat any injured individuals. • Provide emergency personnel with incident background and assessment. All told, head office joined well in this first exercise and a solid foundation was met in line with safety awareness.
