14 INTEGRATED ANNUAL REPORT 2022 MARKETS While NCT’s export sales clearly contribute the lion’s share of market access provision, there is a significant contribution that local (domestic) markets provide. NCT’s overall total sales recovered year-on-year with 39% in the 2021/22 financial year compared to the previous year, of which the first quarter was hampered by the pandemic lockdowns. There was a strong demand for Acacia from the wood chipping mills despite Covid-19 lockdowns and force majeure letters issued by some customers. Total Acacia sales exceeded a record one million tonnes. Domestic pulpwood Eucalyptus sales to local pulp mills improved despite invoked force majeure due to lockdowns which affected the first half of the previous year. Ongoing access challenges experienced by members supplying into our major domestic market were extremely frustrating. However 368 355 tonnes (primarily Eucalyptus) successfully marketed through this avenue, comprised 18% of the total NCT marketed volume. This is a significant market, providing NCT members with much needed market diversity and tactical geographic access. Total volume 2.1 million tonnes with market destination NCT Durban Wood Chips 25% NCT Richards Bay Wood Chips 53% Local Pulpwood (corporates) 18% Non-pulpwood 4%
