32 INTEGRATED ANNUAL REPORT 2023 Internal Stakeholders Human Capital NCT places great value on its employees. We invest in our employees throughout the NCT employee life cycle as we believe our employees are important stakeholders of the organisation. We believe that these investment initiatives improve motivation which builds into a positive work experience and the NCT culture which we all value. NCT understands the importance of having a competent and efficient workforce which feels valued and can contribute positively to the organisation. As such, we place time and effort on our attraction and recruitment efforts, the retention of the best skills through competitive and fair remuneration packages, training and development opportunities, and overall employee participation. The life-cycle of NCT employees NCT continued with restructuring at the NCT Richards Bay Mill to achieve efficiency and flexibility of the operational staff. The 2018 restructuring process left the Richards Bay Chipping operations slightly fragmented and inflexible due to the production shift structure. In the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic, this inflexibility stood out as a major risk to the business where the new norm required more agility and a flexible workforce structure. NCT started the restructuring process with the goal of achieving a unified Richards Bay Chip Mill workforce structure. Supporting terms and conditions of employment were offered to support the requirements of the operations across the two chipping lines. This warranted the creation of multi-skilled positions which would operate across the two chipping lines.
