33 INTEGRATED ANNUAL REPORT 2024 Health And Safety The devastating fire at the Richards Bay Mill was a good test for NCT’s overall health and safety preparedness. The two weeks of active firefighting proceeded without serious injuries to any person on site. This achievement can be attributed to well-trained and capable NCT employees led by experienced and dedicated managers and supervisors. Experience in terms of health and safety compliance in each of NCT’s workplaces enabled employees to work safely in an unfamiliar environment with many risks and hazards all around them. During this reporting period 12 injuries on duty were recorded which involved employees taken to hospital for treatment. None of these injuries were serious or disabling, and all employees recovered successfully. NCT is focussing on streamlining and upgrading the online safety file management of each responsible Section 16.2 appointee. The focus for the next reporting period will be on the review of risk assessments and the updating of safe work procedures. Fire training for NCT staff at Head Office
