30 INTEGRATED ANNUAL REPORT 2025 Pest and Pathogen Tolerance Testing: Eight genotypes were submitted to the Tree Protection Co-operative Programme (TPCP) for screening against key pathogens and pests, including Teratosphaeria destructans, Uromycladium acaciae, and Phytophthora spp. Testing is in progress, and we are awaiting the results. Biodiversity Conservation Approximately 25% of NCT’s owned land is managed as unplanted natural environment, including forests, wetlands, grasslands, and riparian zones. Key conservation areas under consideration for formal nature reserve status include: • Enon Natural Forest (200 ha) • Enyathi Estate’s protected Natal cycad colony • Tevreden Farm grasslands (400 ha), part of the threatened Northern Midlands Moist Mist-belt Grasslands These protected areas harbour numerous threatened species and provide legal and tax-related benefits, while guarding against mining or development threats. Carbon Footprint and Emissions Reduction NCT monitors and reports its carbon emissions, particularly from road and rail logistics. In 2024, a total carbon saving of 8 434.03kg was recorded, largely due to strategic decisions around transport modes, technological upgrades, and market selection.
