59 INTEGRATED ANNUAL REPORT 2026 Health and Safety Employers in South Africa are legally obligated to provide and maintain a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, as stipulated by the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). In compliance with this legislation, NCT has implemented key measures, including formal Safety Appointments and a structured Health and Safety Management System. The General Manager is appointed by the Board in terms of Section 16(1), assuming overall accountability for health and safety across the organisation and has in turn delegated specific responsibilities to senior managers appointed under Section 16(2). In line with Section 17, Health and Safety Representatives are elected by employees to represent workplace safety concerns, playing a critical role in hazard identification and incident investigations. These representatives actively participate in 13 established health and safety committees across NCT’s entities, each convening quarterly to review safety performance and recommend improvements. To enhance its Health and Safety Management System, NCT has acquired the HSEC Online system. This system represents a significant improvement in the previous manual processes, as it provides stronger control over compliance and system maintenance. It eliminates the need to rely on memory, manual follow-ups, re-submissions, and periodic reviews. We believe our health and safety systems and dedicated staff are the main reasons why our injury on duty statistics is so low for an industry which is fraught with potential danger.
