N E W S & V I E W S • A P R I L 2 0 2 4 27 Umhlathuze Municipality’s High Achievers receive generous donation of ten laptops from NCT The city of uMhlathuze recently demonstrated its commitment to education and academic excellence by awarding 150 deserving students with a R6000 tertiary registration bursary. This commendable initiative took place during the prestigious Mayoral Academic Excellence Awards, held in the vibrant town of Empangeni. The event not only celebrated the academic accomplishments of the students but also highlighted the city’s dedication to fostering education and empowering its youth. Mayor Cllr Ngwezi, the driving force behind the initiative, went above and beyond by recognising and rewarding the top students and schools. In a generous gesture, he personally awarded 20 laptops and various other learning resources to the high-achieving individuals. This not only acknowledged their outstanding efforts but also aimed to provide them with the necessary tools to continue excelling in their academic pursuits. In an effort to address educational disparities, Top achievers are honored with laptops Mayor Ngwezi identified two underperforming schools and took proactive measures to support them. The schools received essential learning resources, including calculators, dictionaries, and other materials, with the aim of improving educational outcomes and creating a more conducive learning environment. The Mayoral Academic Excellence Awards also provided an opportunity for Mayor Ngwezi to express gratitude and recognition to NCT for its significant contribution to the community. Despite a recent fire incident at NCT, Mayor Ngwezi acknowledged NCT’s presence and unexpected generosity. As a token of appreciation for their partnership, NCT donated 10 out of the 20 laptops and a router to further support the educational initiatives in uMhlathuze. This collaborative effort showcased the power of community engagement and demonstrated how organisations and local government can work hand in hand to uplift and empower the next generation.
